Movers in Santa Clarita
Santa Clarita is the third-largest city in Los Angeles County, made of Canyon Country, Newhall, Saugus and Valencia. Here is what to plan for when you move there, from Kobe Moving in Van Nuys.
Moving in Santa Clarita
Santa Clarita was incorporated from four communities that still keep their own names: Canyon Country, Newhall, Saugus and Valencia. It is the third-largest city in Los Angeles County, in the Santa Clarita Valley along the Santa Clara River. The 5 freeway forms its western edge, the 14 runs along its east side, and the two meet at the Newhall Pass, the main road to the San Fernando Valley.
Each community mixes single-family homes, townhomes, apartments and condos. Many communities, especially newer ones, have homeowner associations and some are gated. Stevenson Ranch and Castaic, just outside the city limits, are closely tied to it.
From our Van Nuys base, Santa Clarita is north on the 405 and 5, through the Newhall Pass.
What to plan for in Santa Clarita
Hot summers
Summer highs average in the 90s and heat waves go much higher. Start early, keep water handy and keep heat-sensitive items out of a hot truck.
HOAs and gates
Ask your HOA about move hours, truck parking and gate access. Put the details on the quote form.
Canyon streets
Many main streets follow canyons, such as Bouquet, Soledad and Sand Canyon. Hillside tracts above them can have steep driveways.
Through the Newhall Pass
Moves to and from the Valley use the 5 or the 14 through the Newhall Pass. We plan the start around commute traffic.
Parking and permits in Santa Clarita
Santa Clarita is a separate city, not part of the City of Los Angeles, so its own city parking rules apply within limits set by state law. In gated communities, the HOA controls its private streets and gate access. State law allows limits on heavy commercial vehicles in residential districts and, in the same section, exempts vehicles picking up or delivering goods at a building on the restricted street.
