Winnetka was founded in 1922 as a small farming community and is now a busy residential neighborhood in the west-central Valley. Chatsworth is to the north, Northridge to the northeast, Reseda to the east, Woodland Hills to the south and Canoga Park to the west.
The streets are flat, with Winnetka Avenue running north to south through the middle. Owners and renters are close to evenly split, so both house and apartment moves are common.

On streets LADOT posts as Oversize Vehicle Restricted Areas, a vehicle over 22 feet long or 84 inches tall may not park from 2:00 to 6:00 AM without a permit, so a loaded truck should not sit there overnight.
