Movers in Thousand Oaks
Thousand Oaks is the second-largest city in Ventura County and the core of the Conejo Valley. Here is what to plan for when you move there, from Kobe Moving in Van Nuys.
Moving in Thousand Oaks
Thousand Oaks is the second-largest city in Ventura County and the central core of the Conejo Valley, named for its many oak trees. U.S. 101 runs through it, and State Route 23 meets the 101 near downtown and runs north toward Moorpark. About a third of the city is protected open space.
The city grew by annexing Newbury Park to the west and two thirds of the Westlake planned community to the east, so it covers very different neighborhoods. Newbury Park, about 40 percent of the city's land, has the coolest summers and some equestrian areas. Dos Vientos Ranch and Rancho Conejo Village are among its newer areas.
From our Van Nuys base, Thousand Oaks is west on the 101, across the county line.
What to plan for in Thousand Oaks
Newbury Park
Newer areas at the west end, such as Dos Vientos, can mean hillside streets and HOA rules. Tell us about the driveway and any move rules.
The Westlake side
Part of Westlake Village is inside Thousand Oaks. If your address says Westlake Village, check which city it is in.
North Ranch and Lang Ranch
For a larger home on a hilly street, a complete inventory, outside furniture included, makes the estimate realistic.
Coming from Los Angeles
Thousand Oaks is west of the county line on the 101. Plan the start to avoid the morning and evening commute.
Parking and permits in Thousand Oaks
Thousand Oaks is a separate city, not part of the City of Los Angeles, so its own city parking rules apply within limits set by state law. In Newbury Park and other HOA areas, private streets may have their own truck rules. California lets local rules keep commercial vehicles rated 10,000 pounds or more off residential streets, except while making pickups or deliveries of goods to a building there.
